Look. What if the reason Boyfriend is mute is because of the shooting from Pico's School

It MAKES SENSE. Both Ninjamuffin and Phantom Arcade confirmed that Pico's school is catechism and takes place in the FNF timeline, in the past. This is assuming and is patently, the original Pico's school event (where the shooting) not the Love Conquers All timeline. With this implication we can presume that since we already knew Pico and Boyfriend are exes, Swain existed in the timeline where the shooting happened (as once again confirmed past Ninja.) We know from the shooting Pico has severe trauma. As proven by many of his mental/health disorders that were most likely caused by it: Having PTSD, untreated schizophrenia, being obsessive/possibly OCD, is manic, etc.

Now, we never see BF nowadays in the original Pico's School, and it's no surprise BF didn't exist back in 1999 information technology makes sense literal IRL earth wise. For the sake of story/lore element, we can assume he was either of two scenarios. One, he was absent/sick during the shooting, it would give a good explanation the empty desk nowadays in Pico's classroom, it existed even in the original game. Or two, BF was there during the events of the original Pico's school game, he was simply never seen straight. This is likewise a very likely and more tragic scenario, considering we already know other than the survivors of the shooting beingness Pico himself, Darnell and Nene were as well. (Nene of which yous're given the pick to impale or spare her, Darnell who we never saw in the original Pico's school game merely was at that place during the Pico VS. UberKids game in Pico's classroom)

My best idea for scenario two, would be either Boyfriend was hiding similar Darnell or Nene, somewhere completely out of sight or right inside the school building. This could have been in many places like in one of the school lockers, classrooms we never saw, the other bathroom stall Pico never opened, etc. The point is that BF was and could have been a possible survivor of the shooting at Pico's school, which could give way to the theory that Boyfriend is/was mute or selectively mute considering of what happened. When I say mute, I hateful in the sense of really speaking/talking, non just what Boyfriend does as in making random sounds similar his "beeps" and "boops." I'd say if a shooting was happening at your schoolhouse, information technology'd be reasonable y'all'd stay as repose as possible so no i can hear it, specially if yous were right out in the hallway in one of those lockers. It explains quite a bit. The outcome might have been and so traumatizing like it was to Pico that it had a different long lasting event on Boyfriend. And in that crusade, was beingness mute.
